Bottom round swages are sometimes used in conjunction with a top round swage for truing up tenon work and for rounding for blacksmiths.
Handle installation method is traditional; Meaning that stuck tools such as blacksmith flatters, top swages, top fullers, and cutters, head may not be as tight or square to handle as a standard forging hammer. An article on this can be found HERE. Also please keep in mind that wood handles do shrink and swell with the amount of humidity in the air. Handles that were tight in the summer may be loose in the winter.
