Length tolerance up to 1/2"
Can hold one size above selection, but not as well as the correct one will.
Blacksmiths Depot v-bit tongs sized using specified size of square bar. The Diagonal of square bar is larger than across the flats.
NOTE: Since the 1/4" & 3/8" forged vbit are "very shallow" they may be closer to rounded inside of the jaw rather than "v", but still hold round and square extremely well.
When purchasing these tongs for flat bar a smaller size may be needed
