Dinging hammers go by several name:

  • Diniging
  • Boilermakers
  • Trimming
  • Garnishing

 Initially used by boilermakers to give shape to sheet metal.  Often used by metalworker and scultors for shaping sheet metal.

One of the hammers that was widely used for refinishing the Statue of liberty in 1936 and still made by the same company in France.

Recently has been used by Knifemakers for forging the "Brut de Forge" knife thumb area.
